Mrs. Deasy Tikupasang is a Toraja woman who owns a make-up artist business in Rantepao, South Sulawesi. She began her business by opening a salon in 1997, despite having no beauty skills. However, her curiosity and hunger for information drove her to visit each salon in her area one at a time to learn about their strengths and flaws. She noticed inconsistencies in those salons and how some salons lagged behind the times. She then taught herself to make her salon better than those she visited.
Not long after, Mrs. Deasy began to venture into make-up and wedding attire. Many people were interested in being her clients until she no longer accepted requests for haircuts. According to Mrs. Deasy, at least 20 people conducted weddings each month and hired her for bridal gowns and make up artists.
Mrs. Deasy was approached by a friend from Batam who offered her secondhand branded goods from Singapore. Mrs. Deasy capitalized on this chance when she saw it. Mrs. Deasy’s business has also expanded into branded goods. This branded goods business unexpectedly saved Mrs. Deasy during the pandemic at the beginning of 2020.
Mrs. Deasy’s accomplishment could not have occurred without the assistance of a third party. With enough working money, Mrs. Deasy started from scratch when she opened her salon. However, Ms. Deasy was able to grow her business due to joining the KSP Sahabat Mitra Sejati in 2016.
“The salon and bridal cosmetics business my mother created went bankrupt due to mismanagement. I’m committed to rebuilding it, and thankfully KSP Sahabat Mitra Sejati is here to help. The service is adequate, and they are patient if my salon is busy,” Mrs. Deasy ended.
