Jakarta, December 18, 2025 — Discussion of the Cooperatives Bill (RUU) once again emerged at the Indonesian Cooperatives Symposium II. This forum brought together the government, the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), academics, and cooperative actors to discuss the direction of national cooperative regulatory reform.
Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Ferry Juliantono stated that regulatory reform is necessary to ensure cooperatives have a legal framework aligned with current economic developments and governance. The government is pushing for regulations that can strengthen cooperative institutions while providing legal certainty for their members.
Meanwhile, Member of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Rieke Diah Pitaloka assessed that discussions on the Cooperatives Bill should be open and participatory, involving cooperative actors to ensure the regulations are effectively implemented in the field.
The symposium was attended by dozens of large national cooperatives across sectors, reflecting the active and experienced involvement of cooperative actors in the process of formulating policy recommendations.
Representing management, Luqmanul Hakim, Government Relations Officer at KSP SMS, stated that this symposium provides a forum for fostering friendship among cooperatives to discuss strategic issues. This year’s discussion focused on the Cooperatives Bill, which is considered relevant in addressing changes in the business environment.
“The Cooperatives Bill is expected to provide clarity regarding governance, supervision, and protection for cooperatives so they can adapt to economic dynamics,” said Luqmanul Hakim.
The Second Indonesian Cooperatives Symposium is part of a series of public outreach initiatives before the Cooperatives Bill’s further deliberation in the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI). Input from various parties is expected to inform improvements to national cooperative regulations.
